Ashfield Blessing Box is a community food pantry open to the public 24/7 on the grounds of Ashfield Baptist Church at 19 Holden St Ashfield. We set it up during the height of the pandemic in May 2020 using a repurposed cupboard with the aim to help provide food security to those in need around us. The Girls Refuge offers short term, crisis accommodation in a safe, home-like environment for girls aged 13 to 17 years who are going through a difficult time and are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The Girls Refuge has been operating for over 40 years and was one of the first youth refuges in NSW. What started as Sunday community meal to help those feeling lonely over 30 years ago, Canice’s Kitchen has now transformed into a daily service providing support to men and women experiencing homelessness and social exclusion. We are now also operating weekly health, legal and employment clinics, daily showers with access to toiletries and personal care items and brand new clothing, supplied by our partner Thread Together. We recently launched our Community Support Program, a bespoke employment training program which supports our Guests back into paid work.

Orana Women’s Health Centre is a safe space, tucked away in the centre of Gymea shopping strip, providing information, support and referral for women and girls of the Sutherland Shire. We are a trauma informed, strengths based, client focused service where you can come as you are from whatever stage you are at. We then walk alongside you to build on existing skills and resources in ways that are culturally respectful and empowering. Services include social Inclusion groups, Information and referral, Free Family Law advice and a Safety and Healing Program which supports women experiencing domestic and family violence.

These services are available from the Social Health & Wellbeing clinic in Ashfield as well as our mobile medical van. The following services are available, general screening, prescriptions, Mental Health Plans, HIV, Hep C, Blood Sugar Point of Care, Women’ Health Screening, Vaccinations, Skin Checks, Pregnancy Testing, Pathology Screening, Telehealth appointments, Specialist Referrals and more. All healthcare services are free of charge. No Medicare card is required for our health check-ups. Script assistance is avaliable for those who need it most.
